Addiction and Recovery

I am passionate about helping people in Recovery and their families heal and live the happy, healthy life we all deserve.

RECOVERY YOGA is geared to assist those in the recovery community healing from drug/alcohol addiction and prescription drugs, those who love them, and anyone suffering from stress or grief. This is a safe space to experience one hour away from life in a healing environment.

I invite anyone affected by these or similar issues to join me as we gently move our energy in harmony with one another on the healing path. We will practice Gentle Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra (guided relaxation) and a long Shivasana (floor relaxation. Aromatherapy and Essential oils are used throughout to help calm and assist during the Recovery process.

WHY I AM SO PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS

I grew up in a home with my addicted brother.  I am now a member of what is known as a “Family of Loss”. I am person who knows first hand the detrimental effect addiction has on the person as well as the family. I walked by my brother’s side during his brave 20 year battle with addiction, his many happy years in Recovery, and his eventual loss of that battle when he died of an accidental drug overdose during what should have been the prime of his life. These powerful healing modalities were unknown to us and not easily available back then. I truly believe that Andy would be alive today if even a few of these modalities were available. And I know these could have supported me in my healing from a life darkened by addiction and unprocessed grief.

Additionally, my incredibly strong 89 year old Mother is still alive. However, in a short period of time, one prescription turned into 12-15 daily. It happened so fast and it’s beyond the point of experiementing with the elimination of some. Many have side effects, thus a new presciption for that and on and on. The only thing I can do now is provide her with several Essential Oils to support her. I have vowed not to go down this path and help others avoid it as well.

The combined experiences of two of the most important people in my life have inspired me to join the Drugless movement and use natural methods of supporting my body, mind, emotions and spirit.

In the classes with young people in Recovery, I have seen the transformation of teens and young adults suffering from addiction to thriving young adults through the power of counseling therapies complemented by yoga, reiki and meditation.  Teens that could not sit still have transformed into serious yogis and meditators. When one of them tells you they are “Hopeful” it is the greatest gift of all.

The Recovery Process is a long road.  Once the Short Term Rehab protocol in over, that is when the journey begins.  This is the time people need support in developing new healthy methods of living.  I believe body-based movement – moving the energy- is key.  Vinyasa yoga links breath and movement, getting energy moving through the body. Reiki works on these energy centers.  At the same time, quiet meditation, reflection, and restorative postures are necessary to fortify the body, mind, and spirit on the Recovery Journey.

The most effective tool I incorporate into these practices are essential oils that work on both the physical and emotional levels.  The oils are used on a daily basis to support many aspects of Recovery.  I also use Energy Clearing and Movement practices of Reiki and I.E.T.-Integrated Energy Therapy.
